Risk note. Automated trading can lose money quickly, especially with leverage. Every platform below connects to real exchange or brokerage accounts. Paper trade first, use API keys without withdrawal rights, and never run a strategy you do not understand. Meln is not a financial adviser and earns commissions from some links on this page.

What we checked, and what we could not
We did not run live money through eight bots for a quarter and declare a winner, because a quarter of returns tells you about the quarter, not the bot. We evaluated what a buyer can actually check. Custody and security. Who holds your funds, what permissions the API keys need, and whether the platform has had a breach. Cost as a share of account. A $360-a-year subscription is 12 percent of a $3,000 account, which is a hurdle most strategies will not clear. What the AI is. We separated genuine signal models from configuration chatbots from marketing. Backtesting and paper trading. Whether you can test before risking anything. User sentiment. Trustpilot, G2 and community complaint patterns, weighted toward the last twelve months. Regulation. Where the platform is registered and whether any regulator has acted against it.
Editor's note, October 6, 2026. 3Commas and Tickeron were both showing promotional prices against higher list prices when we checked, so both are quoted. Pionex's regulatory position outside the EU and US rests on a single reviewer's claims we could not independently confirm; treat that row with care. Kryll and Shrimpy were left off because we could not establish whether their bot products are still actively sold.
Best AI trading bots for crypto
013Commas
3Commas is the most complete crypto bot platform and the one with the most complicated history. The bot set is broad (DCA, Grid, Signal bots driven by TradingView webhooks, a SmartTrade terminal), the AI assistant genuinely helps configure strategies, and it connects to every major exchange via API keys without ever holding your coins. Appearing in four of the five top-ranking comparison articles for this search is not an accident.
Then there is December 2022, when 3Commas API keys leaked and users lost an estimated $22 million. The company initially denied being the source. A class action alleging negligent security was dismissed, then revived by the Ninth Circuit on March 2, 2026, and is ongoing. On top of that, a forced migration from the V1 to V2 platform in 2025 dominates recent Trustpilot complaints: lost features, bots that could not be transferred, and price rises (one user cites going from £36 to $180 a year). The October 2025 pricing restructure reportedly moved multi-exchange connections to Pro and API write access to Expert, and capped Grid backtesting at four months. We would still use it, with keys that have trading permission only and no withdrawal rights, which is how you should use every platform here anyway. Our full 3Commas review goes through the plans and the security timeline.
Strengths
- Widest bot and exchange coverage
- TradingView signal integration
- Non-custodial
- Useful AI assistant for setup
Watch out for
- 2022 API key breach, litigation ongoing
- Painful V2 migration, price rises
- Grid backtesting capped at 4 months
- Only 29 Trustpilot reviews in the last 12 months, a quiet signal
02Bitsgap
Bitsgap is the platform we would send a cautious person to first. The seven-day Pro trial needs no card, you get twenty demo bots to practise on, and the three paid tiers are priced plainly with a 20 percent annual discount. It connects to 17 exchanges by API and never holds funds. The bots are grid, DCA and a COMBO bot that mixes the two with a trailing component; "AI" in Bitsgap's marketing is mostly a word, and we prefer that honesty to a chatbot bolted on for the brochure.
What you give up versus 3Commas is the TradingView signal integration and the depth of the SmartTrade terminal. Bitsgap's affiliate program pays 30 percent revenue share, which we disclose because we use it, and it excludes Russia and Belarus. The company has not had a security incident on the scale of 3Commas', which, given the category, is a feature.
Strengths
- Real no-card trial and demo bots
- Clear pricing, decent annual discount
- 17 exchanges, non-custodial
- Clean security record
Watch out for
- No TradingView signals
- Fewer bot types than 3Commas
- Pro tier is pricey for small accounts
03Cryptohopper
Cryptohopper is the platform for people who want to design a strategy rather than pick a template. The strategy designer, backtesting and paper trading are the best in the crypto group, and the marketplace of copyable strategies and signals is large, if uneven. The AI features (auto-switching strategies, market making, arbitrage) live on the $129 Hero tier, which is where the "AI trading bot" label is honest and also where the price stops making sense for small accounts.
The three-day trial is short for something this configurable. Copy-trading bots are priced separately on top of the subscription. The affiliate program pays 10 percent recurring, rising to 15 at volume, with payouts under $75 withheld; we disclose it because we link to it. If you already know what strategy you want to run and want tools to build and test it, Cryptohopper. If you want to pick a bot from a menu, look elsewhere.
Bottom line. The platform for people who want to build and test a strategy rather than pick one. The AI features live on the $129 tier, the trial is three days, and copy bots cost extra. Know what you want to run before you sign up.
04Pionex
Pionex flips the model: it is an exchange with bots built in, so there is no subscription, the bots are free, and you pay a 0.05 percent trading fee. For a beginner that removes the hardest question in this category, which is whether a monthly fee is worth it before you know if you can trade. The grid and DCA bots are simple to start and the PionexGPT assistant helps pick parameters.
The cost of that simplicity is custody. Pionex holds your funds, and while its EU arm is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland and the US arm operates as a FinCEN-registered money services business, the global platform sits outside a top-tier framework. One reviewer cites 2025 US consent orders and a French AMF blacklisting of the global domain; those are single-source claims we could not independently confirm, so check with the regulators before depositing. Support is email and chat only, and withdrawal-delay complaints exist. Our rule: use the entity regulated where you live, keep the balance to what you are actively trading, and move the rest.
Strengths
- No subscription, bots are free
- Low 0.05% fees
- Easiest start for a beginner
- Regulated EU and US entities
Watch out for
- Custodial, so exchange risk applies
- Global entity's regulatory status is murky
- Support is thin
- You are limited to Pionex's own markets
05Coinrule
Coinrule is the no-code option: you write rules in plain language ("if BTC drops 5 percent in 4 hours, buy $100 of ETH") or pick from 150-plus templates, and the platform runs them on your exchange account. There is no model here and Coinrule does not really pretend there is, which we respect. The free Starter plan is a genuine way to learn, and paper trading is included. The paid prices we found were from third parties (roughly $30, $60 and $450 a month), so verify on the site; the $450 Pro tier is for people managing serious size.
Two cautions: API keys are stored on Coinrule's servers (true of every platform here, but worth repeating), and backtesting is locked to paid plans, so you cannot test a rule's history before subscribing. Centralised exchanges only.
Bottom line. Plain-English rules, a free tier that teaches, and no pretence about being AI. Backtesting is paywalled and the paid prices are not clearly published; confirm before you commit.
Best AI trading bots for stocks
06Trade Ideas
Trade Ideas is the one platform on this page where "AI" describes a model that actually proposes trades. Holly runs simulations overnight across dozens of strategies and surfaces the setups that tested best, with entries, exits and position sizing; on Premium you can route them to a broker automatically. Active day traders have used it for years and the scanner alone is best in class. It is also the most expensive thing here by an order of magnitude, with no trial, and Holly's historical edge is reported by Trade Ideas rather than audited by anyone else.
If you day trade US stocks with a five-figure account and you already spend hours on scanners, the Premium plan can pay for itself in time saved. If you are anyone else, the price makes the decision for you.
Strengths
- Genuine AI signal engine
- Best stock scanner available
- Backtesting and autotrade
- Long track record with active traders
Watch out for
- $2,268 a year for the full product
- No trial
- Returns are self-reported
- US equities only
07StockHero
StockHero brings the crypto-bot model (strategy bots, a marketplace, TradingView integration) to US stocks through broker APIs. The Lite plan at $49.99 only works with TradeStation; Premium at $99.99 unlocks 15 bots, TradingView and the mainstream brokers. It charges a flat fee with no profit share, which is cleaner than some rivals. "AI" is largely a marketing term here. The 14-day trial is fair, annual plans save about 20 percent, and the DR 37 homepage ranking at the top of Google for this search tells you the product has traction even if the brand is small.
Bottom line. Stock bots at a sane flat fee with TradingView integration. The useful tier is $100 a month and Lite only works with TradeStation.
08Tickeron
Tickeron sells AI-generated signals and pattern recognition across stocks, ETFs, forex and crypto, with "AI Robots" that publish trade ideas you then execute yourself. The five-dollar signals tier is the cheapest way on this page to see what a model-driven approach looks like, and the robots tier at $45 (promo) is reasonable if you want ideas rather than automation. Where it falls down is as a platform: one detailed review scored its charting at 0.77 out of 5, and because it does not execute trades, you are still doing the work. Promotional prices were live when we checked; list prices are a lot higher.
Five dollars a month to see what model-driven signals look like. It will not place the trade for you, and the charting is poor. As a cheap education, it is hard to argue with. Our take on Tickeron
What "AI" actually means in a trading bot
Three different things, and the marketing rarely distinguishes them. First, a configuration assistant: a chatbot that helps you set grid ranges or DCA steps (3Commas, Pionex). Useful, not a trading model. Second, a signal engine: a model that scans markets and proposes setups (Trade Ideas' Holly, Tickeron's robots). This is the real thing, and its edge is reported by the vendor, not verified by anyone independent. Third, a label on ordinary grid and DCA bots that have run the same way since 2018 (most of the rest). None of the three is a reason to expect profit. The second is a reason to pay more attention to the vendor's track-record claims and to paper trade for longer.
Can AI trading bots be profitable? The honest answer
Some users, some strategies, some market regimes, yes. Grid bots make money in sideways markets and lose in trends; DCA bots do the reverse. No platform here publishes audited user returns, and no independent study we could find shows retail bot users beating a simple index over a full cycle. What a bot gives you is discipline and uptime: it will execute your rules at 3 a.m. without fear or greed. What it will not give you is a good set of rules. The honest workflow is paper trade for a month, go live with money you can lose, keep the subscription under five percent of the account, and review monthly.

Risks and the security checklist
Create API keys with trading permission only, never withdrawal. Whitelist the platform's IP addresses where your exchange supports it. Use a unique email and two-factor authentication on both the bot platform and the exchange. Keep only the capital you are trading on a custodial exchange like Pionex. Read the platform's breach history (3Commas 2022 is the one everyone knows). And remember that a subscription is a fixed cost against a variable return: a $360-a-year plan on a $3,000 account is a 12 percent hurdle before you have made a cent.

Taxes
Bots generate hundreds or thousands of closed trades, each of which is a taxable event in most countries. Every platform here exports trade history and crypto tax tools can import from the major ones. Budget for the accounting before the subscription; more than one reviewer has noted that the tax software cost more than the bot.
Which platform fits which trader
Never run a bot before: Pionex. Want a no-card trial on an exchange you already use: Bitsgap. Want every bot type and TradingView signals, and will set your API permissions correctly: 3Commas. Want to design and backtest your own strategy: Cryptohopper. Want plain-English rules: Coinrule. Day trade US stocks with real size: Trade Ideas. Want stock bots at a sane price: StockHero. Want cheap AI signals and will trade them yourself: Tickeron.
Questions traders ask us
Do these make money?
Sometimes, for some strategies, in some markets. No platform publishes audited user returns. The bot executes your rules; it does not know if they are good.
Best for a beginner?
Pionex, because the bots are free inside the exchange. Bitsgap if you want to keep funds where they are and try for seven days without a card.
Is 3Commas safe?
Non-custodial, so it never holds coins. It leaked API keys in 2022 and the lawsuit was revived in 2026. Trading-only keys, no withdrawal rights, always.
What is the 'AI' here?
A setup chatbot, a signal engine, or a word on a grid bot from 2018. Only Trade Ideas and Tickeron are the second kind.
What do they cost?
Fifteen to a hundred and fifty a month for crypto, far more for stocks. Keep the fee under five percent of the account or the maths is against you.
Taxes?
Every closed trade, in most countries. Budget for the accounting software before the bot.
Our position
3Commas remains the most capable crypto platform if you manage your API permissions like an adult, Bitsgap is the safer and simpler alternative, and Pionex is where a beginner should start because it removes the subscription question entirely. For US stocks, Trade Ideas is the only product with a model that earns the AI label, at a price only active traders should pay. Across all eight, the thing that will decide your outcome is not which bot you pick but whether you paper trade first, size small, and keep the fee under five percent of the account.
